Each year, between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Florence Lions Club asks the Florence and Boone County communities for help with providing 250 eye examinations and eyeglasses for the poor, computers and apps for the visually impaired, eyesight screening for over 3,500 students at 14 schools in the Boone County School District, and recycling of thousands of used eyeglasses, reading glasses, and sunglasses for international mission trips.
This year, the coronavirus pandemic has caused a tremendous loss of fund-raising events and gatherings at our Clubhouse, and has caused us to find creative ways to reimagine and restructure what has always been a a friendly volunteer asking for donations outside your local grocery store to a digital format. The need has never been greater as the families we serve have been hard hit by pandemic income and employment losses.
100% of all funds raised during this drive
are plowed back into our Club’s vision-related services.
Send a check: Please mail your tax deductible contribution to the Florence Lions Club Charities, Inc., P.O. Box 522, Florence, KY 41022, and write “Eyesight Drive” on the memo. Recycle Used Eyeglasses, Reading Glasses, or Sunglasses at the collection box at the Florence Lions Clubhouse, 29 Lacresta Drive, Florence, Kentucky 41042, or at the Florence Walmart Vision Center

The Florence Lions Club is dedicated to service and helping those less fortunate in our community. Every year, all year long the Florence Lions Club provides for local eyesight care. This effort involves eye screening at Boone County schools, follow up requests for eye exams and treatment as well as purchasing special equipment to help the visually impaired that have no means for assistance. Every dollar that is donated by individuals and companies in the community are returned to the community through these efforts.
If you would like to make a donation or learn more about becoming a member of the Florence Lions Club, please contact Lion Mark Hollowell at (859) 468-9014 or by email at florencekylions@gmail.com.
There are more than 1.3 million Lions spanning 200 countries, consisting of men and women, young and old, embracing a single cause. We share a common spirit. Since our beginning in 1917, we have been united in a single cause: Helping those less fortunate.
We are tackling tough problems such as blindness and drug abuse as well as spreading diabetes awareness and assisting the deaf, disabled, underprivileged, and the elderly. In fact, whatever the community needs to make life better, we are there to help. Lions assist and serve continually providing aid long after the cameras and media are gone. Annually, Lions provide hundreds of thousands of people in need around the world with eye examinations, eyeglasses, eye surgeries, and visual aids.
All of these assistance programs are made possible with volunteer members donating their time and efforts.
